“Bangladesh Tertiary Sector Graduate Unemployment”_Sajid Amit, Lumbini Barua, and Sharmin Shajahan_May 26, 2019:
Bangladesh has both the boon and the bane of a significant demographic dividend. Employment-related challenges of its youth population, one of the largest in the world, have only recently come into the sustained spotlight and to this end, the ULAB Center for Enterprise and Society has dedicated an infographic series to highlight said challenges. While, in the first infographics, CES considered data from the World Bank Bangladesh Tertiary Education Sector Review, in this sequel, a wide variety of sources are considered including BBS, BANBEIS, and CPD. The rural-urban breakdown of graduate unemployment and average monthly salaries are depicted, as are female participation in university education and the rate of “Not in Education, Employment and Training (NEET)” among Bangladeshi youth. The largest areas of skill gaps of graduates, with regard to employer perceptions, lie in English and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). -

“CES COVID-19 Consumer Pulse Survey”_Sajid Amit, Oliur Rahman Tarek and Lumbini Barua_May 2020:
This survey has been implemented by CES to assess consumer sentiments ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. With a sample size of 651, the survey was administered online and followed a random sampling method. The survey finds that the majority (85%) of the respondents are unsure or pessimistic about the country’s economic condition after COVID-19 and at least 84% of respondents are cutting back on their spending. The survey also finds that Eid spending will nose-dive sharply, with restaurants and hotels expected to be the hardest-hit sectors. A CES Thought Leadership Article is due based on this survey.
