On March 27-29, 2019, Mr. Sajid Amit, Director, ULAB Center for Enterprise and Society (CES), attended the Regional Expert Meeting on “Strengthening and Making Effective Regional Cooperation in Preventing Radicalism and Violent Extremism” organized by the International NGO Forum on Indonesian Development (INFID). INFID has had Special Consultation Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council since 2004. Mr. Amit spoke about his research on best practices in preventing violent extremism (PVE), inculcating civil values, internet safety and emotional health among youth. The topic of internet safety was widely discussed in the regional meeting. The workshop was co-organized by the Executive Office of the President of the Republic of Indonesia (KSP), the National Commission on Human Rights (Komnas HAM), the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Indonesia in Geneva (PTRI), the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Korea in Geneva, the United Cities and Local Government – the Committee on Social Inclusion, Participatory Democracy and Human Rights (UCLG-CISDP), and representatives from universities, think tanks and NGOs from 10 countries in South and South East Asia. The University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) was the only Bangladesh-based university represented at the Forum and CES the only research center.
