On Wednesday, August 9, 2017, the Center for Enterprise and Society (CES) at the University of Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) organized a talk by Ms. Farah Kabir, Country Director, ActionAid Bangladesh. The talk was titled “Gender, Women’s Rights, and Climate Change” and was delivered to packed audience of ULAB administrators, including Professor Imran Rahman, various faculty members, and students.
Ms. Farah Kabir’s lively seminar encompasses her own personal and professional experiences in working on women’s rights, engaging students along the way, by asking them to share their experiences in their households. Ms. Kabir went on to highlight ActionAid’s experiences in working closely with policy-makers, focusing on case studies where a single person was able to affect policy change in her locality. Ms. Kabir also spoke about practical consequences of climate change and how they have debilitating consequences on women’s rights.
In the final part Ms. Kabir’s session, she invited ULAB students to come and stand next to her, one-by-one, and ask her their questions. The event ended with Professor Imran Rahman awarding a crest to Ms. Kabir and members of a very pleased audience thanking Ms. Kabir for her talk.
